Seriti Road Initiative recently brought together local schools and Professor Aliza le
Roux from the University of the Free State QwaQwa Campus for a focused
discussion on restoring learners’ connection with nature and encouraging
environmental responsibility.
The meeting explored practical ways to move learning beyond the classroom and
into real-world engagement with the environment. Professor le Roux highlighted
how direct exposure to nature during school years plays a vital role in shaping
lifelong attitudes toward conservation and community care.
Through collaboration between schools and community partners, the initiative
aims to create opportunities for learners to actively participate in caring for their
surroundings — fostering pride, accountability, and a deeper sense of
stewardship.
Seriti Road Initiative believes meaningful environmental change begins with
empowered young people who understand that their actions matter.
