In December 2024, the chairperson of Seriti Road NPC, Fusi Mosiea, met with Queen Mathokoana Mopeli during a visit to QwaQwa. The meeting formed part of Seriti Road’s mission to introduce its vision to respected and influential figures within the community.
Recognising the Queen’s longstanding role and influence among the Basotho people, the meeting provided an opportunity to formally introduce the work and purpose of Seriti Road NPC while also seeking her guidance and counsel. As a respected community leader who understands the daily challenges faced by many residents, Queen Mopeli was warmly receptive to the initiative.
During the discussion, she shared valuable insights drawn from her experience working closely with communities and supporting people through their struggles. She encouraged the organisation to take time to understand the complex dynamics within local communities and to approach its work with sensitivity and care.
One of her key pieces of advice was that organisations serving communities should strive to remain independent and avoid alignment with political movements wherever possible. Maintaining neutrality, she noted, helps build trust and ensures that development efforts remain focused on the wellbeing of the community as a whole.
Queen Mopeli welcomed the gesture of consultation and expressed her support for the organisation’s efforts. She wished Seriti Road NPC success in its mission and encouraged the team to continue working towards making Clarens a stronger and more supportive place for everyone who calls it home.
